The League of Women Voters of LaPorte County will hold an informational session on Thursday, February 19 discussing how the County Council and the County Commissioners serve different critical roles in the government structure.
Beginning at 6 p.m. at the County Complex, Commissioners’ President Steve Holifield and Council President Adam Koronka will present and also provide time for questions. The event facilitator is Pastor Nate Loucks of State Street Church.
Holifield was elected as a commissioner in 2025 and also is the vice president of the Plan Commission, a representative to the Fair Management Event Center Committee (FMEC), Solid Waste District Board, 911 Board, Emergency Management Agency Board, County Park Board, and Historical Society Museum Board. Previously, he served as Lincoln Township Board President and on the Soil and Water Conservation District.
Koronka is currently in his fourth year on the County Council. He was elected president in 2025 and again in 2026. He is also a representative to the La Porte County Redevelopment Commission, the FMEC, and Purdue Extension Board. Previously, he served on the La Porte County Board of Zoning Appeals and La Porte County Planning Commission.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy though education and advocacy. The group never supports or opposes any political party or candidate.
