La Porte County, IN — A new report from the Indiana Bar Foundation highlights where Indiana stands nationally when it comes to civic participation. According to the 2025 Civic Health Index, Indiana ranks:

  • 33rd out of 50 in voter registration

  • 41st out of 50 in voter turnout

While Indiana has improved in recent years, the report shows the state continues to lag behind much of the country in overall voter participation.

The Civic Health Index notes Indiana has shown strength in volunteering, charitable giving, and neighborly support. However, the report also points to concerning declines in public discussion, political involvement, and civic participation across many demographic groups.

The report emphasizes that improving Indiana’s civic health will require continued effort, including reducing barriers to participation, rebuilding trust in public institutions, and encouraging community engagement across all ages and backgrounds.

At The Informed Citizen Project, we believe an informed voter is an empowered voter. Our mission is to help citizens better understand local government, elections, and the issues that directly impact our communities.

Improving Indiana’s civic health starts with each of us—staying informed, showing up, and voting.
